Top marks for the Class of 2022
By Claire Maggs, Director of Sport
It was fantastic to see so many Redmaids' High sportswomen attend this year's Sports Dinner, again held at Ashton Gate after a couple of years away. This year, we were delighted to have as our guest speaker, Simi Pam; NHS doctor and rugby player for Bristol Bears. Simi delivered a very inspiring speech, highlighting the need to work hard and learn how to face challenges head-on. The evening was an opportunity to highlight the sporting endeavour and achievements of the pupils across Year 9 through to Year 13. 'Players' Player' award, 'Coaches' Player' award, and 'Player of the Year' award were presented across all hockey and netball teams.
This year the 'Coaches' Performer' award' and 'Performer of the Year' were also awarded in both Cricket and Athletics owing to the increasing numbers participating and achieving great success in these summer sports. Well done to all 57 girls who won one of these awards!
There were a number of big awards also presented throughout the evening, with the 'Team of the Year' being won by the U16 National Netball Squad, the 'Sporting Ambassador' award going to Petrina (Year 13) and the 'Sporting Excellence' award being won by Jess (Year 10). A new award introduced this year was the 'Sporting Honours' one which was presented to Emily (Year 12).
The end of the evening was topped off with the 'Sports Woman of the Year' award, which Emma (Year 11) won.
Thank you to all the pupils for their ongoing commitment to the sport at Redmaids' High, and we, of course, look forward to all the celebrations again next year.
