Celebrating Ramadan at Redmaids' High
Last Thursday, our School had the privilege of hosting our very first Iftar event - a special gathering that marks the breaking of the fast during Ramadan. Iftar is the evening meal that Muslims share at sunset after a day of fasting, a practice observed throughout the holy month of Ramadan. This sacred time is not only about refraining from food and drink but also about reflection, prayer, and coming together as a community.
The event was a truly heartwarming occasion, bringing together students, staff, and families to celebrate and learn more about this significant tradition. Our students shared personal reflections on what Ramadan means to them, offering insights into the spiritual and personal growth they experience during this month. A particularly special moment was when Ammaarah’s brother performed the Adhan (call to prayer), setting the tone for a meaningful evening. We were also honoured to have Mr Feroz, father of our student Haleema, lead the prayers, allowing those observing Ramadan to come together in worship.
Of course, no Iftar would be complete without a delicious meal, and our incredible catering team prepared a wonderful spread for everyone to enjoy. The shared meal was a perfect way to bring people together, developing a sense of unity and appreciation for different cultural and religious traditions.
We extend a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success, from our dedicated students and staff to our generous volunteers and guests.
Your contributions made the evening one to remember, and we are already looking forward to next year’s Iftar celebration!
