Year 8 musician selected for National Children's Orchestra for second year in a row
Congratulations to Camilla in Year 7 and Eleanor in Year 8 who both won categories in the 2020 United World School (UWS) international photography competition.
The brief was to submit an image that captured ‘lockdown heroes’, and the competition was judged independently by award winning photographers Min Reid and Kate Blewett, and social-documentary photographer Jim Grover.
We were delighted to hear that Camilla’s photograph won the U12 category and Eleanor’s three lego-inspired images won the Jim Grover Photography Award.
One of Eleanor’s image (pictured) is called ‘Searching for Corona’. As judge Kate Blewitt said, “Eleanor has created something very special here. To use Lego figures to represent different people, in different jobs and to focus them around the impacts of the virus is very simple and very clever. Just magical and so very creative in the actual photographers’ angle.”
All four photographs are now part of UWS' Summer Auction: Raise Together, Transform lives which will raise funds to help communities around the world in the face of coronavirus.
UWS are providing handwashing facilities, spreading lifesaving information about stopping the spread of the virus, and ensuring children continue learning despite school closures.
The auction is now live and will be running until Sunday 28 June.
