Redmaids' High Chamber Choir crowned runners up in the GSA Choir of the Year competition.
We have had the most joyful and uplifting time with our new friends from the Singing Children of Africa choir today!
The Singing Children of Africa have been touring since 2006. They began visiting other countries as part of an initiative by Maureen McIntyre, founder of the charity Educate the Kids, which runs the Jolaurabi School and an orphanage in Mombasa. The choir is made up of children from the school who travel abroad to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
They are now enjoying their ninth UK tour, and all the funds raised will go back into their school community. In the past, these funds have enabled them to build new classroom blocks, improve school facilities, and support their orphanage. It has been such an honour to see them perform today and to have them by our side throughout the school day, sharing our cultural experiences with one another.
The children enjoyed an art lesson, a yoga class, and some other sports activities before performing at Redland Hall. Their energy, enthusiasm, and talent have left a lasting impression on everyone. It was heartwarming to see the bond that was quickly formed between the visiting choir and our students, as they laughed, learned, and created memories together.
We were also deeply inspired by the stories the children shared about their lives in Mombasa and their aspirations for the future. Their dedication to their education and their optimism serve as a powerful reminder of the impact of giving back and supporting communities in need.
A huge thank you to Mrs Hinks for organising such a special visit for us all. It has been truly unforgettable, and we look forward to continuing this wonderful connection in the future!
