Celebrating Ramadan at Redmaids' High

IMG_5764Untitled design (17)-Jan-22-2025-03-07-26-6432-PMRamadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is a time of fasting, reflection, and community for Muslims around the world. From dawn until sunset, those observing the holy month refrain from eating or drinking, channeling their focus toward faith and devotion. Fasting during Ramadan is a way to cultivate self-discipline, gratitude, and empathise with those less fortunate.

Meals during this sacred month take on special significance. Suhoor, a pre-dawn meal, and Iftar, the evening meal to break the fast, bring families and communities together. It is also a month of spiritual enrichment, with many reading the Qur'an, engaging in extra prayers, and performing acts of kindness. At Redmaids’ High, we are committed to embracing and supporting our Muslim students during Ramadan. This year, we were proud to take inspiration directly from our students, who shared their insights and guidance on how the school could best support them. With their input, we’ve introduced tailored guidelines for staff and students which can be found on our Hub.

A highlight of this month was hearing from our students during a recent assembly, where they shared personal reflections on the significance of Ramadan in their lives. They spoke about the spiritual and emotional journey of fasting, how it strengthens their connection to faith, and the ways they balance their studies with their religious commitments. These genuine stories gave everyone a deeper appreciation of Ramadan’s importance and its impact on our school community. During Ramadan, the prayer room in Redland Hall has become a cherished space for quiet reflection and daily prayers. Open to anyone looking for solitude, it’s a reminder of our shared values of respect and inclusivity.

As Ramadan continues, we extend our warmest wishes to all who are observing this sacred month. May it be a time of peace, joy, and unity.
