Years 5 and 6 visit Skern Lodge | Redmaids' High Junior School
Last Thursday, our Year 5 Juniors had a very busy Robotics day, with QEH Juniors joining us. Wessex Setpoint from the University of Bath came to run the day where mixed groups worked together on different challenges. Teams were tasked to build and programme robots to complete all sorts of tasks, from throwing balls through a hoop and opening gates, to climbing stairs and feeding pets!
The emphasis of the day was on team building and problem-solving but it was also designed for young people to have fun, practical experiences of engineering and science.
Mrs. Edbrooke (Year 5 teacher and Deputy head teacher) who helped organised the event said “Not only did the girls learn how to build and program a robot during this exciting day but they used many aspects of the learner profile. In their groups they were problem solvers, leaders, good communicators and team players.” By the end of the day all the teams were able to successfully steer their robotics through a series of obstacles and they reflected on how well their teams worked together.
