The Bristol Schools 48-Hour Film Challenge is back!

Could you make an original 4-minute film in just 48 hours?

Bristol 48 film challengeWe are delighted to announce that the Bristol Schools 48-Hour Film Challenge is back this summer and will take place between 12 – 14 May. All Bristol students aged 7-18 are invited to take part in this fast-paced and creative challenge and shoot, edit and submit a short original 4-minute film with any device or their mobile phones within 48 hours!

The project is endorsed by IMDb, boomsatsuma, The Bottle Yard Studios, Sync Ltd and is hosted by Redmaids’ High School with proceeds from the competition entrance fees going to local charity, Off The Record.  The challenge is also proud to be supporting the UNESCO City of Film.

Joining the panel of judges again this year, among others are Col Needham founder and CEO of IMDb and “Mamma Mia!” screenplay writer Catherine Johnson. More industry specialists will be joining the panel and will be announced soon.

The event also includes the option of free pre-challenge workshops in filmmaking, improv acting with some of the best tutors in Bristol, film editing, and screenplay writing. This year, we are delighted to announce that boomsatsuma will be offering a camera and sound workshop for students aged 14-18 years, and more creative workshops will be announced soon.

The 48-Hour Film Challenge project was initiated by Sarah Bramley-Dymond, Head of Digital Learning at Redmaids’ High School. “The Bristol Schools 48-Hour Film Challenge offers young people the opportunity to showcase their imagination and creativity, whilst utilising valuable skills like communication, teamwork and productivity. All whilst they have fun making an original film.”

The 48-hour film project itself is a well-established and very successful concept that runs in cities around the world. Each year, we are blown away by the concepts the teams come up with and the creativity that shines through their final creations. I would encourage any student who is interested in any aspect of film and creative media to take part.”

The Zazi project which is part of ‘Off The Record’ (OTR)  has been announced as the charity partner for the challenge and will receive 100% of the £10 per team entry fee. OTR is a mental health social movement by and for young people aged 11-25 living in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Schools are invited to register their challengers by Friday, 5 May 2023. Teams must have a designated adult to oversee the weekend, and there is a charitable donation fee of £10 per team. The earlier teams register, the more workshops and guidance they will have access to, so early registration is encouraged. For further information or to register, click on the button below.
