England call-up for Saskia | Redmaids' High School
We are thrilled to announce that Year 11 student Carys has been selected for the England Hockey U16 girls' squad. Carys joined the England Hockey Bristol Talent Academy in Spring 2024, where she participated in July's Talent Academy Festival in Nottingham. Here, her explosive skill, work rate and laser focus in front of goal were on show to the selectors, and she was invited to their national age group training camps in September, October and November. Just 27 players from all over the country were ultimately selected for the England squad. The first England training camp will take place in December at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre and we hope to see Carys feature in matches for her country in the near future.
Carys said, "I'm thrilled to have been selected for the England squad; this is an incredibly exciting time for me and I look forward to working with the England coaching team and other players in December to develop my game further."
Director of Sport, Miss Claire Maggs commented "When Carys joined us in Year 7 it was clear to my coaching team and I that she had outstanding talent and drive. We are thrilled that this has been recognised at a national level and so pleased that Carys' hard work and determination have paid off. We know that she will seize this opportunity - we cannot wait to see how she develops as a player in the coming years. Here at school, Carys will shortly play in the EH Championship quarter-finals in our U18 team, so it's non-stop!"
