Top scoring team - U15 netball squad | Redmaids' High School
On 11 March 2023 our U16 netball team travelled to Peterborough to compete in the England Netball National Schools Finals and came away as champions! We are the only school in the South West to have won this title since its inception in 1969.
In the early group stages, we finished in second place successfully securing a top four position overall meaning we were through to the semi-finals.
The group stage results were as follow:
20-10 win v RGS Newcastle
13-6 win v Notting Hill & Ealing School
17-13 win v The Marist
8-16 loss v North Chadderton
17-8 win v Solihull School
13-13 draw v Presdale School
21-7 win v Sponne School
Heading into the semi-final match against winners of the other group and firm title favourites Hurstpierpoint College, Redmaids' High were fired up and ready to go from the first whistle. Connecting well through the court and continuing to score goals, the final whistle blew with the team winning 15-9 confirming their place in the final!
The excitement and support from family members up on the balcony was incredible!
The final was against Bromsgrove, and after a tense first half with both teams contesting for the ball, Redmaids’ High started to pull away finishing with an outstanding 14-10 win and were crowned England Netball U16 National Champions! An incredible achievement. A huge congratulations to the whole team: Jess (Captain), Amy (Vice-Captain), Bella, Charlotte, Zara, Amy, Alice, Neve, Skyla and Flora.
Claire Maggs, Director of Sport, commended the students saying, “What these girls and our netball coaches Kellie Hull and Anna Joll have achieved together is outstanding. Their determination, commitment to one other, and their belief throughout the whole tournament, from Regional to Nationals, has been extraordinary. These girls have created a legacy at the school which will inspire generations to come and we couldn’t be more proud.”
