Our talented Year 10's take their original play out on the road
As the new academic year fast approaches, we bid a fond farewell to our fantastic Year 13 students.
With many celebrating A Level results this morning and others with their International Baccalaureate results earlier this summer, the Class of 2024 has demonstrated academic prowess whilst continuing to embody the values of Redmaids’ High through their outstanding dedication and community spirit to all areas of school life.
Academically, our A Level students did exceptionally well; 53% of the grades achieved being A* or A, significantly higher than the national average of 28%, and 79% of grades achieved A*-B.
All departments within the School are worthy of praise and recognition, with some incredible standout performances; 100% of students in Fine Art achieved an A* grade, as did students in Latin, Russian, and Further Mathematics.
This follows on from success earlier in the summer for our IB Diploma students. The average points score amongst the cohort was 39 and two students achieved 44 out of 45 points, a score that puts them in very select company across the world.
They truly are a fantastic group of young, confident women and we are so excited for what their future will bring.
For those looking forward to beginning university, we are delighted that the vast majority will be taking up their first-choice places, and the range of courses among the year group is impressive. Medicine, International Social and Public Policy, Physics, Television and Film Production, Neuroscience, and Ancient History and Classical Archaeology are a few examples of the range of subjects that will be pursued.
More students than ever are looking forward to studying degrees with a focus on the environment, including Rosie, who will now pursue her interests in Marine Biology at the University of St Andrews, Isabella, who is following her passion for Geography at the University of Exeter and Clemmie who is going on to study Zoology at the University of Nottingham. It is also notable the number of students who are going on to study Modern Languages at a higher level, including Ruby, who will be going on to study Spanish at the University of Oxford; Gracie and Ellen, who will be studying Modern Languages, as well as Sarah, who will be studying Arabic.
Furthermore, we continue to see several students flourish in the Performing Arts. We are delighted that Grace and Hannah are both studying Music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the Royal Northern College of Music respectively, with Peggy studying Acting at the Oxford School of Drama.
We are also celebrating students taking on exciting alternative pathways, such as Olivia, who has been offered a degree apprenticeship studying Computer Science at Jaguar, and former Head Girl Muznah, who will be travelling to Somalia as part of her desired gap year.
The diversity of destinations continues to be a sign of strength for our school and the expert guidance and broad opportunities we offer our students.
Beyond academics, the year group have also shone in numerous aspects of Sixth Form life. From captaining successful sports teams to leading our wonderful school production of Pride and Prejudice, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, winning the British National Physics Olympiad, finishing as runners-up at the GSA Choir of the Year competition, completing Gold Duke of Edinburgh and committing to numerous community service projects raising significant awareness and funds for important causes. The year group have had an exceptional two years, making the most of the opportunities on offer both in and outside the classroom, and it has been wonderful to witness them be such fantastic role models for our younger years.
Our Director of Sixth Form, Dr Alice England, commented, “I am incredibly proud of the students in this year group and their tremendous dedication and effort over the past two years.
"It is of course important to acknowledge their academic achievements, but more importantly, it has been wonderful to celebrate their exciting new chapter ahead. They are more than ready to explore their next steps and we are so proud to have been part of their journey.
“I will miss them all greatly, but I am so excited for what their future will bring!"
To our Year 13 leavers, congratulations on all your achievements, and thank you for all you have contributed to our community. We will miss you, but we wish you all the best in your future endeavours and we can’t wait to see you again soon!
