Lucy hits the high notes | Redmaids' High School
Year 13 student, Lucy, has a difficult decision to make after being offered places to read Music at a number of prestigious institutions. Lucy, who is a first-study oboist but also plays the piano and recorder, chose to apply to both music colleges and universities in the autumn to keep her options open.
As a result, Lucy has been offered places to study the oboe at the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, and The Royal Northern College of Music, as well as being awarded scholarships to both Guildhall and Birmingham Conservatoire. These courses are extremely competitive to get onto, with colleges such as the Royal College of Music offering just 3 places to oboists.
Lucy has also excelled in her university applications, being offered places to study Music at Trinity College, Oxford, and on the prestigious joint course between Manchester University and Royal Northern College of Music.
Mrs. Harrison, Director of Music at Redmaids’ High School commended Lucy and said, “being awarded places at so many distinguished institutions is an exceptional achievement and is a real testament to Lucy's hard work and talent.”
She has an exceptional list of musical accomplishments, including winning the Two Moor's Festival's Young Musician Platform Competition 2020, winning a coveted place on the English Schools' Orchestra 2020, winning the Bristol Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition 2020, being a City Wait (musician to The Lord Mayor), and placing second in the last Rotary Young Musician Final for Avon.
Lucy studies the oboe in school with Imogen Triner and the piano with Mrs. Woodman, Head of Keyboard Studies, and holds an ARSM as well as two Grade 8 Distinctions.
