The Ayoub Sisters visit Redmaids' High

Untitled design (1)-Apr-24-2024-10-23-08-8858-AM

We were delighted to welcome the award-winning Ayoub Sisters to Redmaids' High School yesterday. The sisters are a multi-instrumental musical duo known for their arrangements and performances of well-known pop and classical works and unique compositional style.

Laura and Sarah who both studied at high-profile music colleges, performed for students from our Junior and Senior schools and spoke about growing up in Glasgow, playing together, their musical influences and incredibly successful careers. Their unique musical style draws inspiration from their Egyptian and Scottish heritage. They used a loop pedal station to accompany a cello and violin, showing students how versatile orchestral instruments can be.

The sisters performed three phenomenal pieces, including their upcoming new single, stunning the entire audience with their creative and beautiful performances.

Following on from their own experience of uploading a video to their YouTube channel that led to Mark Ronson discovering them and being invited to Abbey Road Studios to record a new version of 'Uptown Funk', they shared stories from their experiences of working together and encouraged students to never be led by fear and to seize opportunities as they present themselves.

After their performance in Redland Hall, Laura and Sarah ran an improvisation workshop, giving students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play alongside them. Later in the evening, they were guests of honour at our annual music dinner and spoke more about their careers as musicians.

We're very grateful to Laura and Sarah for joining us for such an incredibly inspiring afternoon. We wish them the best of luck with their upcoming single and for the final of the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition this weekend.
