Hitting the high notes | Redmaids' High School
Last week, over 260 musicians and singers took part in our Autumn Concert, staged for the first time in our brand new, state-of-the-art Redland Hall.
Performances were given by all the school’s larger ensembles – the Concert Orchestra opened the concert, the Year 7 choir sang a medley from Oliver and the evening closed with the Redmaids’ High Community Choir singing City of Dreams from La La Land and Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. The Flute Group, Wind Band, Senior Choir, Symphony Orchestra, Youth Choir and Senior Brass Group also performed.
Highlights from the evening included the Close Encounters a capella group singing Sinner Man by Shaw, the Chamber Choir’s spine-tingling performance of Ava Maria by Holst and the Chamber Orchestra’s soothing rendition of Gershwin’s I’ve got Rhythm.
The evening culminated in a rousing performance on a James Bond theme by all performers.
As Mrs Harrison, Director of Music at Redmaids’ High School said, “The girls thoroughly enjoyed performing in our wonderful new Redland Hall to a packed, appreciative audience. It is wonderful to see the girls showing such commitment to their music, which resulted in a really high standard of musicianship.”
Our Drama and Music Departments join forces to stage a performance of The Wizard of Oz in Redland Hall from Wednesday 6 to Friday 8 December. Following this our Close Encounters a capella group will perform at the Brunel Sinfonia Concert on Sunday 10 December in the United Reform Church, Henleaze.
