There was also a Donald Trump marching confidently around, dismissing the ‘fake news’ published in *Fire and Fury*. “Encouraging a love of reading is a key focus of ours” explained Mrs Brown, “We are continually reading to the pupils and with the pupils to help them develop a passion for books. By Year 5 we expect every pupil to have a book on the go at any one time, and set time aside, during the school day, for them to read it.”   Many studies have outlined the benefit of reading. In fact ‘reading enjoyment’ is reported as being more important for children’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic status. “There can be no more important subject than English”, said Sir Michael Wilshaw, who served as Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector. “Literacy skills are crucial to pupils’ learning for all subjects.”   Our Junior School could not agree more, and take every opportunity to promote books and reading to each individual child, “And if that’s means dressing as Wally for the day”, said Mrs Brown, “I am more than happy to do it!” Date Posted: 13 March, 2018 [Share](http://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https://news.redmaidshigh.co.uk/news-article/celebrating-books) ## Articles for: ![News from the Arctic Circle!](https://news.redmaidshigh.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Penny1.jpeg?width=770&name=Penny1.jpeg) **News from the Arctic Circle!** Date Posted: 21 May, 2022 READ MORE ![Mrs Tobias announces her retirement | Redmaids' High School](https://news.redmaidshigh.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Isabel%20Tobias%20three-450_th.jpg?width=770&name=Isabel%20Tobias%20three-450_th.jpg) **Mrs Tobias announces her retirement | Redmaids' High School** Date Posted: 3 September, 2019 READ MORE ![Lucy hits the high notes | Redmaids' High School](https://news.redmaidshigh.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/IMG_2816%204-450_th.jpg?width=770&name=IMG_2816%204-450_th.jpg) **Lucy hits the high notes | Redmaids' High School** Date Posted: 1 October, 2020 READ MORE ![Redmaids' High Musician Spoilt for Choice | Redmaids' High School](https://news.redmaidshigh.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Lucy%20K-450_th.jpg?width=770&name=Lucy%20K-450_th.jpg) **Redmaids' High Musician Spoilt for Choice | Redmaids' High School** Date Posted: 13 January, 2021 READ MORE ![Miranda Krestovnikoff to speak at Redmaids' High | Redmaids' High School](https://news.redmaidshigh.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Imported_Blog_Media/Miranda-Krestovnikoff-Copyright--2-450_th.jpg?width=770&name=Miranda-Krestovnikoff-Copyright--2-450_th.jpg) **Miranda Krestovnikoff to speak at Redmaids' High | Redmaids' High School** Date Posted: 24 May, 2019 READ MORE ![Redmaids’ High girls make history!
