Top GCSE results for the Class of 2021
Last week, our school community had the chance to witness two incredible showcases of student talent: the Year 11 GCSE Drama students' Eduqas Component 2: Scripted Performance Exam and an inspiring Dance Showcase Evening featuring students from across the year groups.
The GCSE Drama exam, held during the day, challenged students to demonstrate their performance skills, characterisation, text interpretation, and ability to bring scripts to life on stage. Our students rose to the challenge with confidence, creativity, and dedication.
This year's performances featured an impressive variety of theatrical styles and texts - from the emotional depth of Greek tragedy to the timeless elegance of Shakespeare. Students also delivered lively and dynamic scenes from a Mike Leigh comedy and brought contemporary theatre to life with pieces inspired by the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and passion, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these talented performers.
For the past six years, our Dance Showcase Evening has been a highlight of the school calendar, giving students the chance to shine on stage. This special event allows our Year 11 GCSE and A Level groups to present their exam pieces to a live audience ahead of their official moderation later in the month. Additionally, our Year 10 GCSE students perform work from their first year of the course, showcasing their impressive progress.
This year's showcase was even more exciting, featuring captivating performances from our school dance clubs — the Choreo and Musical Theatre clubs — with talented students from Years 7 to 10 joining the lineup. In just 1 hour and 30 minutes, dancers from across the school took to the stage, filling the evening with energy, creativity, and passion. With over 200 parents, friends, and family members in attendance and 50 dedicated dancers performing, it was truly a night to remember!
