Our very own Junior School Election!

PXL_20240704_071004433

As the build-up to the UK General Election culminates with national polling day today, the Junior School has held our very own Year 6 School Election, bringing a sense of friendly competition and excitement to the end of term.

Year 6 pupils formed four parties, with Year 5 running the polling station, and every pupil in the Junior School having the opportunity to vote. The Year 6 parties created their own manifestos based on three points relevant to school life at the Junior School. These included a reduced amount of homework, savoury snacks at after-school care and a sandwich option for lunch in the Summer Term! They prepared posters to spread their messages and even produced a brand name for their party. They worked together to elect members into different roles, such as a spokesperson.

The whole school attended the hustings in last Friday’s assembly where pupils had the opportunity to hear the candidates’ manifestos, with each party being allowed one minute to talk. All pupils had the 4th July (mirroring the general election) to vote for the parties based on their manifestos, and we received an overwhelming 98% turn-out from pupils and staff. The election result was revealed on Thursday afternoon with the Pink Party winning the majority vote. This year’s Junior School election has been a fun, live introduction to the concept of democracy with everyone being able to participate and support their chosen party.
