Year 8 student shortlisted for International Award
Almost 90 students from Years 7 to 9 took to the stage in a highly-energetic and creative adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
This was an ambitious production which saw a large ensemble working together, with focus and discipline to produce a really slick piece of theatre.
There were so many individual, stand-out performances but we would like to mention Annie who expertly portrayed a humorous yet slightly edgy Willy Wonka. She was ably supported by Lucy, whose non-verbal comic timing as Wonka’s erstwhile PA had the audience in stitches. In her role as Verucca Salt, Lily was salty and bratty, and showed impressive projection while delivering her lines, and Edie who gave a fantastically animated comic performance in her role as Violet.
That said, we really must pay tribute to the entire team, especially those working behind the scenes to ensure that props, set, hair, costumes, make-up, sound, technology and dance routines were perfect.
Commenting after the show, Mrs Tobias said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the brilliant characterisations, the energy, timing and creativity in all its forms. It was a superb evening of entertainment and a salutary tale about the dangers of over-indulging one's offspring!”
The school is still buzzing with post-show feedback and energy, and we have been delighted to receive so many positive comments from parents.
As Mrs Armsby, the show’s director and Assistant Head of Drama said, “To hear one parent say, ‘the show was breath-taking - quite beyond what I imagined might be possible’ has left us all on a complete high.”
