What a wonderful World Book Week !

The Junior School girls have been positively buzzing during Book Week which kicked off on Monday with a Livestream from the Cambridge Theatre in London. The broadcast featured Children’s Laureate Cressida Cowell and her famous author friends, Chris Riddell and Frank Cottrell-Boyce.

During the last few days, the girls themselves became authors, and created books based on their favourite hobby. As part of the fun, on one day they dressed up in outfit that represented or hinted at that hobby and we were delighted to see such a wide range of interest on display. There were engineers, mathematicians, ballet dancers, horse-riders, cavers and ice-skaters, among others.

We also enjoyed a bookmark crown competition, which tasked the girls with collecting as many bookmarks as they were able, and making them into an outrageously imaginative crown. At the end of the week, there was a fabulous crown parade, with a prize awarded to the most dazzling crown, followed by a mini party.

Although the highlight of the week had to be the visit from picture book author and illustrator, Kristina Stephenson. She shared her love of books through a fantastic, highly interactive music and puppetry show (pictured).

The Senior School was busy last week too with a book sale in partnership with Max Minerva's, and a range of literary quizzes taking place. The pupils also contributed to a display called 'I Read Because', where they shared their thoughts about why they read. On World Book Day itself, Miss Bratt from the Pearson Library, hosted a treasure hunt. Despite the rain, pupils from across the year groups raced around the school gathering clues which pointed them to the treasure. All great fun!

Finally, we must thank everyone from both the Junior and Senior School who donated books to go to a local library. We hope that reading these will bring lots of enjoyment to others.

To fully understand how we inspire a love of reading in all age groups, we would love you to:
