Triumph at the 2022 British Schools' Orienteering Championships

Last weekend, the school orienteering team headed to Sheffield, for the 2022 British Schools' Orienteering Championships. With a team comprising of girls from Year 6 up to Year 13, this was a real team adventure and a chance to put all the skills acquired at local events and the school club, to the test. The Saturday was spent training; some last-minute brushing up on techniques and an opportunity to try out some trickier controls, without any competitive pressures.

On Sunday, the Championships themselves (held at Graves Park, Sheffield) drew teams from across the country and the girls were racing against some of the top runners in their school year groups, nationally. They performed admirably, with excellent results across all of the age groups and some stand-out runs from a number of girls taking on a new difficulty level of course for the first time.

Combined efforts of the Senior School students ensured they retained their title of British Schools' Orienteering Champions (Small Secondary Category), a superb achievement at a national scale. Equally impressive was the superb team spirit shown by all involved. From helping erect the team tents to cheering each other on, celebrating one another's successes, and cheering up those for whom the race hadn't quite gone as planned, the girls' teamwork and comradery shone through.

Special mentions should go to Amy, Emily, and Emma (Year 13) who took the lead in helping Mr. Hayward coordinate the team on the day, leading warm-ups, applying face paint, and taking the time to offer much-appreciated advice to their younger teammates.

A truly first-class show of sporting excellence and teamwork, of which we, as a school, are very proud.
