The Junior School pupils enjoyed tremendous success at the 2022 Bristol Festival of Speech and Drama, held here at Redmaids’ High School.

Our Theatre Workshop group won their category with a very polished performance of Real Witches – a ten-minute play based around the start of The Witches by Roald Dahl. They also won the Sally Noble glass trophy for the best group performance across the whole festival.

Ruby and Olivia won the duologue poetry section with their performance of ‘The Visitor’ by Ian Serralier, a spooky tale of what happens when a man takes a ring from a skeleton and gives it to his wife as a gift. They also won the duologue acting category.

Justine and Charlotte won the duologue acting category for Year 4 and below with an enchanting performance of Tigger and Pooh.

The Year 3 Drama Club won the prepared group Improvisation section with a performance of scenes developed by the pupils from the poem Well, You Shouldn't Have by Sue Cowling.

Finally, huge congratulations to Amber in Year 6 (pictured) who was awarded the prestigious Blue Bowl. Each year this is given to the individual who the judges have decided was best Junior Performer across the whole festival. This award reflects Amber's outstanding performances in the Year 6 poetry class, the Year 6 solo acting category and in the Year 6 Duologue Acting class – which she won with Isla.D. In receiving it follows, she follows in the footsteps of several other talented Redmaids' High School Junior pupils - many of whom have gone on to take leading roles in the Senior School productions, and beyond.

Speaking of everyone’s achievements, Drama Teacher Mr Kingsley-Jones said, “In addition to the girls mentioned above, there are numerous others who received Distinctions for their performances.

“Across the board, the girls performed exceptionally well, and I would like to congratulate everyone one of them - especially those competing for the first time.

“I know they have all gained really valuable experience.”
