News from the Arctic Circle!

Penny Godfrey popped into Redmaids’ High School this month to speak to the Juniors about her new role with alumna Linda Cruse.

In her first week as 'Head of International Partnerships', she travelled to the most northern tip of Norway, so she could see first-hand the impact that global warming is having on the indigenous people living within the Arctic Circle.  As she explained to the girls, the Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the planet, which has implications, not only for the people living there but also for the rest of the world.

She showed the girls images of the indigenous Sami reindeer herders she spent time with, and spoke about their lifestyle, history, heritage and culture. She also explained how many layers you had to wear when travelling across the Tundra in minus 10 degrees Celsius!

As a parting gift Penny left the girls a set of reindeer hooves and a Sami flag.

We cannot wait to learn about her next adventure!
