Our Music and Drama Departments joined forces to stage the first major musical in Redland Hall – our state-of-the-art performance space, which opened in September 2017.

The Wizard of Oz showcased the capabilities of students across the board as they performed to a full house on each of the three nights. The general feedback was that the production was “absolutely first-class” with some exceptional individual performances.

Zelda was a charismatic and convincing Dorothy with a voice to rival Judy Garlands! The Scarecrow, the Lion and the Tin-Man (played by Caitlin, Emily and Mollie) were equally strong, as each of them held the stage with their confident, humorous and highly-physical character performances.

Niki was a dominant force in her role as the wicked witch, which was in stark contrast to the beautiful, ethereal portrayal of Glinda from Evine. Molly was a brilliantly flawed and eccentric wizard and Alice was utterly charming in the role of Toto, with puppetry skills that really brought the dog to life.

Girls also led on the choreography, the costumes and make-up, they made up the backstage and technical crews and some of our finest musicians played alongside professionals in the live orchestra.

The Art Department was also involved, using their creative talent to make bold, visual backdrops, while staff, students and parents managed front-of-house and refreshments, making this an event that brought the whole school community together.

As Mrs Tobias said, “This ambitious production demonstrated the wealth of talent and energy we have here. I would like to warmly congratulate everyone involved.”
