Steinway Model D Grand piano is unveiled | Redmaids' High School
During half term, the Music Department took five pianists to Steinway Hall in London to attend a piano masterclass.
The girls had the chance to play different Steinway grand pianos to compare their tonal ranges.
They also played some more unusual pianos, including one decorated with gold and a self-playing piano.
Describing this special day, Emily in Year 12 said, “I really enjoyed learning about the history of the Steinway company and about how the pianos are made, including fine details such as the rate of growth of the timber.
“But the highlight of the day was taking part in the masterclass led by Charles Owen, a Steinway artist.
“Lucy and I both performed, and were then given lots of interesting advice about how to make our pieces more musical and how to achieve different tones on the piano. Overall it was a great experience to get feedback from a concert pianist and to have the chance to play on so many exquisite pianos.”
