Last Monday 7 October, Year 4 set off to Cheltenham for the annual Literature Festival. They began the day’s activities with a workshop that took them through a journey in poetry about the process of How a Book is Made, from tree to the final print. The girls had a great time with the walkabout entertainers, outdoor storytelling, and a Secret Seven Trail; a treasure hunt with clues from the classic books.
The highlight of the day was a talk by children’s author and illustrator Chris Riddell, who enthralled the children with his stories and drawings. In fact, he drew pictures throughout the talk, which were projected live onto a big screen. The children came back to school buzzing with excitement, with signed copies of his Goth Girl and Ottoline books and some of his original artwork drawn especially for Redmaids’ High Juniors. Head teacher Mrs. Brown says “The girls had a really fun day out - meeting authors and taking part in lots of interactive learning. Reading is at the heart of our school and this trip only helped to immerse them even more in their favourite stories and characters.”
