To kick-start their courses, the A Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma 'Government and Politics' students travelled to London to visit the Supreme Court and the Houses of Parliament.

On arrival in Whitehall the girls heard from a member of the Foreign Office who works on the Syrian desk who spoke about the journey he has made from university student to diplomat.

The group then walked passed Downing Street and the various ministries before heading into the Supreme Court. A relatively new body in the British judicial system, the girls were fascinated to hear about the role the court has played in recent high profile cases such as the Brexit vote. They also learned about the increased importance of the court once Britain has left the European Union.

The group then moved on the Palace of Westminster itself and enjoyed a guided tour of both the House of Lords and Commons. Their guide was both knowledgeable and engaging and provided fascinating details of life in the building. This was followed by a workshop on the part that pressure groups play in the political system.

Overall the day was highly relevant to the girls’ course studies so was a perfect way to start their two-year Sixth Form studies.
