National Orienteering Success

Square orienteering Both the Junior and Senior School orienteering teams swept the board at the British Schools’ Orienteering Championships, which were held at Stowe Park in Buckinghamshire last weekend.

Our combined Year 5 and 6 team were crowned Primary School British Champions, following a stellar performance from Mencia and Juliet Year 5, and Amy, Katherine, Matilda, Tessa and Isla Year 6.

The Year 6 team also became Year 6 Girls Champions, with Tessa and Matilda finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively, with Isla very closely behind in 5th.

The Year 9 team of Olivia, Honor and Charlotte were next to collect silverware, earning the title of Year 9 Girls champions for the first time.

Our Year 10 girls also made the podium, to finish in 3rd place, which reflected the tenacity shown by Matilda, Annie and Leni, who was running up a year!

These Senior results, combined with a superb, silver medal finish for Emma, Year 12, were enough to retain our title as Senior School British champions, narrowly ahead of Birkenhead School; a fantastic achievement.

This success was achieved despite two of our most experienced Year 12 orienteers, Emily and Amy being unavailable, as they were being put through their paces in the Lake District at a British Orienteering Training Camp.

Speaking of the weekend’s event, My Hayward, a Junior School Teacher and Orienteering enthusiast, said, “I am so proud of what these girls have achieved.

“From Year 5s, up to Sixth Formers, they have really bonded and worked well in their teams, but have also shown great grit and determination to improve their individual performances against tough opposition

“Thanks to their efforts, we are gaining a pretty formidable reputation in the orienteering world, as the school to watch!”
