LAMDA success

thumbnail_IMG_3606Huge congratulations to Amber, Penny and Darcy (pictured) who all received a score of 100% in their recent London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) exams.

As part of the exam the girls each had to recite a poem and/or piece of prose.

For example, for her exam, Amber recited scenes from two different books; His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman and The Queen’s Nose by Dick King-Smith.

We have a strong tradition of drama and performance, and many girls opt to take private speech and drama lessons which lead to end of year exams.

“We want the girls here to feel confident speaking in public,” Headteacher Mrs Brown explains, “and preparing for LAMDA exams can really help with this.

“It also increases reading fluency, helps young people to develop a broader vocabulary, at the same time as increasing memory skills, which are all important life skills.

“While all the girls who have taken drama exams this term have performed well, I was particularly thrilled for Amber, Penny and Darcy.

“To get full marks as they did is really quite an extraordinary achievement.”
