Grades were outstanding enabling students to start the next chapter of their lives at some of the UK’s top institutions, on adventure-filled gap years, or undertaking apprenticeships in a range of interesting professional areas. The chosen pathways reflect the diverse range of skills and interests within the year group with students securing places on a wide range of courses; from Chemistry at Bristol, Animation Production at Bournemouth, to Mechanical Engineering at Birmingham, Medicine, and French at Oxford and Business Management at Cardiff.
Former Head Girl Tamsyn will be reading Modern Languages at the University of Leeds after achieving exceptional results in French, Spanish, and Drama, while former Head Almoners Petrina and Aimee both gained 3 A*s confirming their places to study Medicine at Oxford and Politics and International Relations with Chinese at Warwick.
Results were similarly strong in STEM-related subjects with students such as Esther and Garance preparing to study Engineering at Bristol and Computer Science at Birmingham respectively. They will take their places up alongside peers who will heading off to read Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Midwifery, Maths, Automotive Engineering, and Nursing at destinations including Bristol, Worcester, Exeter, and Newcastle.
Students also excelled in creative and performing arts, with subjects such as Art, Music, and Drama, all achieving 100 % A* - B grades. A number of students will be pursuing their creative passions further, taking places at The Met Film School to study Practical Filmmaking, Arts University Bournemouth for Animation and Drama, and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia. Following on from a successful music tour to Lake Garda earlier this summer results in Music were truly phenomenal, with 100% of students achieving A*s. Among these students was Jenny, who balanced her studies alongside a burgeoning singing career, having recently joined the prestigious National Youth Choir and is now preparing to study History and Politics at the University of Birmingham in September.
Reflecting on this group of students, Lisa Moyle, Director of Sixth Form at Redmaids’ High said, “It has been an absolute privilege to work with such a determined, resilient and inspirational group of young people. Their successes today are a just reward for the efforts they have put in. Whilst we’re incredibly proud of our A Level and IB students for their academic achievements, we are even more impressed by their wide range of extra-curricular activities; from Arts to Drama, Music, Sport, and charity work. I can’t wait to see where their adventures will take them next. A very bright future is theirs.”
We have seen a number of students interested in pursuing apprenticeship opportunities, allowing them to gain hands-on work experience and a qualification at the same time. Amera, who joined Redmaids’ High Sixth Form from Oasis Brightstowe on a scholarship has opted for such a route and will soon be starting a 6-year law apprenticeship with Bristol City Council, having achieved 2 As and B. She said “I researched apprenticeships and felt like they would suit me better than going to university. I am so happy and surprised with my results today and cannot wait to get started with my apprenticeship in September.”
Head of Redmaids’ High, Paul Dwyer commended the students saying, “We are extremely proud of this cohort. They have worked so hard over the past two years, adapting to online learning and disruptions to their studies and we are delighted that their dedication and hard work are reflected in the grades they have received today. We know they will go on to succeed and shape the world in unique and incredible ways and are excited to see what the future holds for them.”
